Why Tallow

Your skin needs fats to help keep moisture in.

In its outermost layer, ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids sit between skin cells, helping maintain the skin barrier and limit water loss. Your skin also produces sebum, its natural surface oil. As we age, these fats can change, and oil production often decreases, particularly after menopause.

Where tallow fits

Tallow contains oleic, palmitic and stearic acid, fatty acids also naturally present in our skin. They’re mostly joined together as triglycerides, a type of fat also found in sebum.

Tallow acts as an emollient, softening and smoothing the skin. In a balm, it also helps form an occlusive layer that slows water evaporation. This helps skin retain moisture and because oiliness and hydration are different, moisture retention matters for combination and oily skin too.

Tallow, but make it makeup.

We put thought into our skincare, then wear makeup over it for hours. What’s in that makeup deserves just as much attention.

With tallow-based makeup, skin care is part of the formula. Tallow helps soften and condition your skin while the pigments provide colour so your makeup does more than change how your skin looks. It cares for how it feels, too.
